STT Valentine Treats Blog Hop - January 19

If you are here for the DISNEY-PIXAR BLOG HOP, please click HERE.

Hello, and welcome to the monthly Scraps to Treasures Blog Hop.

Scraps to Treasures is a group of crafty people who take their leftover scraps and come up with beautiful and fun projects that center around a monthly theme. This month, it's Valentine Treats

You may have gotten here from Lucy's wonderful blog. Lucy is a dear friend and a Close To My Heart consultant, so if you're looking for fun CTMH products, Lucy is your gal. Our hostess for this month's hop is Jessi B at My Life in Arts N Crafts. Be sure you track back to start at Jessi's blogsite and check out the goodies she has for blog candy!

OK, onto my project(s) for today.....
Label up some Hershey's Kisses for the holiday!

Well, if you know MY family, there aren't many "leftovers" where it comes to treats, but, amazingly enough, I did find a 3-lb bag of Hershey's kisses that were relatively unscathed and stored in my baking supplies cabinet. There's no telling what will happen with them now that they're up in the Paper Jungle (shhhhhhh!)

So I made these cute labels for the bottoms of the Kisses, and intentionally made them kid-friendly so the baggies of chocolates could be topped and sent to my granddaughter's daycare/school for their Valentine's Party.

To make the designs, I used clip art from ClickArt Online, a neat subscription service that I have used for 2 years now. It's $39.99/year for a single-user subscription. With its searchable and continually-updated data base, I've found it handy when making crafts and blog buttons, etc.

FREEBIE for YOU!

this file of labels for your Hershey Kisses.

I did a grid layout above (using Adobe Illustrator) and dropped in images -- as-is, or I may have modified to add a sentiment to the image -- into each square of the grid. I printed the finished images onto full-sheet sticker paper, and punched the circles using a 3/4" punch from Marvy.  (If you don't have sticker paper, use plain white cardstock and adhere the images on the Kiss with a non-toxic glue stick.)

NEXT, I made this cute bag to put the Kisses into:

Since this IS the "Scraps to Treasures" monthly blog hop, I wanted to show you how I used my scraps:

First of all, before I trim them down and put them into easily searchable, color-sorted files, I accumulate my scraps in a drawer from a dresser I rescued from the dump:

It's really full right now ... I need to clean it out!
But I could still find some yellow for the bee....
The red scrap came from the Disney mini-album I made (see today's DISNEY PIXAR BLOG HOP!).

I cut the treat bag topper using Spellbinders' LABELS 19

The pink scraps came from the January "The Card Kitchen" card kit I featured earlier this week on my blog:

But my biggest scrap-saving tip for you is this: Never throw out anything! Here I ALWAYS use the off-cuts from the foam dots after the foam dots are gone. Just trim the size you need for perfect dimension:

I cut the bee from a Sizzix die, bought on markdown,
90% off at ACMoore's clearance area. 50 cents!

The "Bee Mine" cut is from Silhouette America's Online store, as is the little heart-pennant banner behind the bee. I used scraps for all the word cuts and banner.

I really had a lot of fun making treats for this blog hop. So I continued:

While I was upstairs playing with the Hershey's Kisses (umm, 2 for the bag, one for me!) ... (and hubby yells, "HEY! Where are the Hershey's Kisses!?"), I figure I better make him a treat box for Valentine's Day...

Using entirely scraps from my January "Card Kitchen" card kit I featured last week, I made this cute box.  The file cut, which includes the 9 cut-out hearts on each of the four top panels, is from Silhouette America online store.  I punched different color circles from scraps to fill a zig-zag pattern of the heart cuts. The embellishments on the top of the box are also leftovers from the kit.  It's a nice large box -- it can hold about a pound of kisses, enough to keep hubby happy, for sure!  He loved it!

UPDATE:

More Valentine's treats came out of my Paper Jungle late last evening as I went to post thisHere, I'll share a treat container I made using the new Close To My Heart kit that is just $10 with any qualifying order. (Go up to LUCY's BLOG above if you need a CTMH consultant!)  The kit includes the pre-cut little boxes (tube holders) and tubes, as well as the paper to cut whatever designs you'd like. Also, there is a slew of acrylic stamps, including the "You're sweet" cutie used on this.   I used some leftover ribbon from my stash, made a rosette, punched the glitter heart from the CTMH stock provided ... and filled with some of the still-uneaten Kisses. (How did THAT happen, that I missed some??!)
I hope you enjoyed my Valentine's projects made entirely from scraps. Now, before you head down the Hop line-up, consider how to win the luscious blog candy:

I love all your projects and between you and others in this hop I am coming up with some great ideas for Valentine's Day for my kiddos and their classmates. Thanks for sharing all those awesome treats and does your hubby have to wait till Valentine's to find out that there were Hersey Kisses left over?
