Rumple Ribbon Thursday - Thank you!

Hi, friends ... It's Ellen CardMonkey here, and it's Rumple Ribbon Thursday.

 

I'm excited to show you this card for several reasons.

 

First of all, I was able to use several different techniques and supplies on this card that just made me smile.  And secondly, I'm writing this post WAY ahead of time because I'll be on vacation when this is posting ... and that it's up means that I'm enjoying myself in Disney World with my hubby, daughter/son-in-law and granddaughter Charlotte!

 

Let me tell you how I made this card. I used Jillibean Soup papers and patterns found in the April Card Kitchen kit. Do you like kits?  I do because it gets my Mojo going, and I usually can change it up to suit my own style.

 

In this case, instead of using the "ordinary" ribbon, I substituted Lovebug Creations' Rumple Ribbon in Caddy Blue. Isn't it just perfect!? 

 

The kit provided a simple kraft die cut butterfly to use. I wanted something with a little more zing, so I pulled out my Copics ABS (Air Brush System) and airbrushed the butterfly in turquoise, purple, yellow, brown and green.  I then used a white gel pen to add definition.  Can you see the cute antennae?  They're turquoise electrical wire topped with Swarovski beads.

Thank You Cards

Yesterday's baby shower for daughter Emily was a huge success. We had a beautiful day for the brunch at the Five Ponds Golf Club (Warminster, PA). Forty guests showered Emily and Baby Girl ("Charlotte Grace") with niceties and necessities. The candy buffet was a hit -- I can't believe all that candy (woosh) went and there are no leftovers.

Today was a day to unwind after months of preparation, and to make some Thank You cards for my dear co-hosts, who include the two other Grandmothers (Sherry Michaels and Margaret Cohick) and Emily's godmother Mary Beth Hume (my sister). They were all generous with their time and contributions, even though they live 6-10 hours away!

Here is the card I made for them. I used a Cuttlebug embossing card to create the raised swooshes, and cut the butterfly using Cricut "Cake Basics" cartridge. The butterflies were decorated using Stickles; their antennae were gold wires highlighted by Swarovski crystals. The raised "Thank you" sentiment was given dimension with pop dots.

I've made a few more cards this weekend, which I'll be unveiling in the days ahead. Stay tuned!

And in my spare time ....

... I bead!

Now the normal person might ask, "Ellen, with as many jobs as you have, a family depending on you, two dogs and Mr. Smiley, and prepping for your new granddaughter, when do you have spare time??"

Well, that would be an inane question. We do things we love, and make time for them ... because they're relaxing, and an avenue for creativity. In my case, I was tied up in a hospital, tethered to IVs, bored out of my goard, so made three beaded bracelets. I'm thinking that these will be prizes at my daughter's upcoming baby shower.

This bracelet here is pink on the outside and peridot green on the inside, though by using Swarovski crystals, all sorts of shimmer colors show up in a photograph. Another (using the same pattern) is gold and brown smoke.

The third bracelet was a very pretty platinum and grey/pink, but I gave it to one of my nurses with whom I had a warm and wonderful conversation about our daughters and their expectancies. The nurse, Lorrie, needed a *hug*, and what better way to do it with a gift made with love?
