Disney-Pixar Blog Hop - June 4: Craft happy things to make before your next Disney trip!

Welcome to the Original Disney Pixar Blog Hop, June 2016!  

Disney and crafting are a magical combination, and we are so happy you joined us to day for this blog hop.

Some of the crafters (including me!) participating in this event have been doing this together since 2011!  Over the years, the hop has grown but one thing has always stayed the same: amazing crafting projects that feature your favorite characters from Disney and Pixar movies.

Here are my projects for today's hop:
My daughter Emily, her husband Josh and their adorable kids Charlotte (5) and Evan (2) went to Disney World a few weeks ago -- gasp! Without me!!  (That's okay -- my ex-husband, Emily's dad, took their family. For some reason, he didn't agree to pay for me!! :O) 

Emily asked if I'd help make some projects for their family.  

First up, a "Countdown to Disney" chain that Emily had found on Pinterest, shown at right. 

I modified it a bit -- putting feet on the yellow "body" part of Mickey's resemblance. I designed the cuts using Silhouette Cameo's software, and made 7 full Mickeys (four weeks' worth).  Every day, one of the kids pulled a piece of the chain to show them that their trip was nearing. They were sooooo excited!

Next, Emily wanted me to make autograph pillow cases for the kids -- another idea she found on Pinterest.  (She neeeeeds to stay off Pinterest!!!  LOL)

Using my Cricut Explore, I downloaded files from the Mickey & Friends cartridge, using Cricut Design Space, and modified the castle to weld in a solid space (where there was a drawbridge/door) and replace it with Mickey ears. I also put the kids' names into the design.

I cut the designs from Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) that I'd purchased from US Cutter. I had never done a vinyl/iron-on project before, and it was easy-peasy. The vinyl cut like butter, and ironed onto standard pillow-cases very easily. 

The pillow cases were a HIT with the Disney characters. See here how they signed each kid's linen, using fabric markers that Emily bought:

(If you're wondering, Emily borrowed two laminated laptop boards from me, and wrapped/moved the pillow cases as needed, to ease the signing by the characters. She held the pillow cases on with binder clips and a rubber band, and kept them in a large Ziploc bag to keep them from getting soiled between signatures.)

And Anna from Frozen thawed out enough to sign the kids' pillow cases. Charlotte is dressed as Tiana, from her visit to the Bippity Boppity Boo Boutique.

Evan took a real liking to Ariel from The Little Mermaid. 

...and Evan had a "thing" for Aurora too. 

Evan was back at the hotel, sick, and didn't 

get to meet Olaf, also from Frozen. 

It was just Dad (Josh) and Charlotte this time. 

I'm not sure how or if Evan liked Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, but he seems happy to have his autograph.

Celebrating Evan's First Birthday

 

 

It's hard to believe that this time next week, my adorable grandson Evan will be ONE year old!  Whew, that year just flew by. 

 

I have had the privilege of being Evan's primary daycare provider for the past year, tending to Evan on the three, occasionally four, days a week that his Dad Josh was at work, and while his Mom Emily had to sleep following her overnight shift as an ER nurse. Just recently, Evan started to go to a real "school" (where his sister Charlotte attends) half-time -- a day or two a week -- and he's still with me for another day or two each week. 

 

Family and friends are gathering next weekend to celebrate the "superheroes" ...Evan who's turning one, and his Dad who just turned 30 (POW!) in May. Since the theme is "Superheroes", I used a darling font file I found in the Silhouette Online Store, and primary colors of red, yellow and blue, to make the celebratory banner (above).  I hope the birthday boy loves it!

The world's a lot brighter now, with the birth of a new star:  My grandson, Evan Joshua Cohick, was born yesterday, June 26, 2014 at 12:08 p.m.  

He's all of 8 lbs., 13 oz, and 22" long.  Mother Emily and Baby are doing well, as are Evan's Dad, Josh, and Evan's big sister, Charlotte.

Lots to celebrate in June!

It's hard to believe it's June already ... oh my word, where has the time gone??

In June, there will be plenty to celebrate.  First and foremost, we are expectantly (pun intended!) awaiting the arrival of our Grandbaby #2, a boy who will be named Evan Joshua. (Isn't that nice?!)  He'll be the little brother of Grandbaby #1, Charlotte, who is now just about three-and-a-half and is SO anxious for "her baby."  

Dear Daughter Emily is SO READY to POP!  (That's how Charlotte thinks the baby will be arriving, now that Mommy's belly is as big as

any balloon Charlotte has ever seen!)  Yes, Emily is still working (what a trouper!), those long 12-hour overnight shifts as an ER/Trauma nurse. She's delivering at the hospital where she works ... and hopefully it won't be on a day/shift she's working.  :)

Meanwhile, my Mom turns 84 next week, Dad just turned 86 last week and we've had one nephew graduating from Penn State with a degree in computer sciences, and another nephew graduating from high school and moving on to college. And of course, it's Father's Day in June! :)

TBB Friday: Big Girl bling!

Welcome back to another TBB Friday, short for "The Buckle Boutique," a fabulous online store where you can purchase all sorts of bling to make your projects sing!

Over at the home of my sweet granddaughter, Charlotte, things are really popping!  My daughter Emily is now 34 weeks pregnant -- it's hard to believe how time has flown.  Here Emily is four weeks ago, looking obviously expecting. And here is one of Baby Evan's first baby pictures. Can't make it out?  It's the face! 

Well, Emily and Josh have moved Charlotte out of her "baby room" and into a "big girl bedroom," and are changing out the name and dots on the baby's wall.  I cut the baby's name using my Silhouette Cameo and vinyl from Expression Vinyl.



 
Gii treated Charlotte to a pretty new comforter for her big Queen-sized (make that PRINCESS sized!) bed in her new room.  The "Swirly Paisley" bedding is from Pottery Barn Teen. We all love how girly it is, but at the same time, how adaptable it will be to Charlotte as she grows through the years.

When Emily frst showed me the carpet, I remarked how very similar the pattern and colors are to Close To My Heart's (now retired) "Chantilly" paper line.  I offered to make a banner for Charlotte's room, to dress it up a bit. 

Not only did I use the retired paper from Close To My Heart, but I also used retired pennants in two sizes. But the piece-de-resistance, I think, is how I added blinged letters cut from The Buckle Boutiques' fabulous rhinestone sticker sheets.  This is how it turned out:

And here is a close up of the cut letter. The TBB rhinestone sticker sheets cut like butter in your Cricut machine!
